Vigorous, climbing, deciduous shrub suitable for covering large areas in a short time. It has aerial roots that cling to supports. Throughout the summer it produces characteristic flowers in the form of wide open trumpets, mandarin red with the throat and underside an orangey yellow, grouped together in very showy terminal panicles. The young plants do not tolerate hard winter frost. It has no special requirements as regards soil and can even be grown in the shade although it will flower more if planted in a sunny position.
